Role
Acting as a member of the consultancy's local authority consultancy team which: Undertakes value-for-money and efficiency reviews of local authority environmental services, including waste management, recycling, street cleansing, grounds maintenance, caretaking and estate management services; Provides advice on, and assists with the delivery of, street cleanliness surveys (BV199/NI195) Advises local authorities on the procurement of waste management and other environmental services; Provides technical and professional advice on operational and managerial aspects of local authority environmental services;
Advises on recycling systems, refuse collection and waste treatment/transfer and disposal; Advises on recycling performance standards, landfill targets, LATS etc; Advises on Civic Amenity site operations and management; Reviews and advises on the procurement of grounds maintenance services;
Provides support to local authorities on technical and managerial aspects of environmental services; Presents findings to local authority Officers and Members; Devises and carries out consultation with local authorities, waste management contractors and other stakeholders; Prepares technical and professional reports; Undertakes technical and financial management of consultancy projects; Undertakes business development, securing new clients in the waste management sector including the preparation and submission of proposals and formal tenders.
Key Competencies
Skills:Excellent communicator at all levels (essential); Flexible and able to travel throughout UK (essential);Excellent correspondence and report-writing skills (essential - samples of written material will be required); Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team (essential);Experience in making presentations to committees and other groups (desirable); Full UK driving licence (essential); Good IT capability in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint (essential).Qualifications:Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline (environmental, engineering etc) – essential; Member of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management (Full or Graduate) – desirable.
Personal Qualities:
Experience:A relevant amount of experience in waste management or streetscene sector (essential); A good amount of this experience working within or for a local authority (desirable); Experience in a consultancy environment (desirable).
