Position: Design Engineer Trainee
Ferrovial Agroman, the construction division of the Ferrovial Group is looking for UK graduates to spend up to 3 years training in Spain to become the future Technical team of the future for the UK construction business.
The Technical Office of Ferrovial Agroman is an organization of 150+ people, most of them Professional Engineers. It reports to Ferrovial Agroman’s CEO and is responsible within Ferrovial Agrom}an for the overseeing and management of all technical and design issues related to Ferrovial Agroman’s contracts, both at the tender stage and post-award levels.
During the tender stage, Ferrovial Agroman’s role in concession or D&B contracts is to provide a lump-sum Design and Construction price, taking all the risks and obligations under the contract. During this stage, the Technical Office is responsible for the selection, supervision, management and direction of consultants and the tender preliminary design and quantities.
After the award of the project, the role of the Technical Office is to select, manage and direct the design consultants and the provision of detailed design services. The Technical Office always works together with external consultants and does not produce the design documents directly; instead its expertise is used in the leadership, direction, management, challenging role and overseeing of the consultants. It is an exciting but demanding work.
Duties:
The candidate will undertake a three year training period in Madrid (Spain) working on projects in the Ferrovial Agroman Technical Office. The objective is to allow the individual at the end to be responsible for managing, in one of our major UK projects, one of the following disciplines: structural, roadway, geotechnical, and electro-mechanical during the detailed design of projects. Whilst in Madrid, the selected candidate will study for a Masters degree over 2 years, in one of the discipline stated above in one of the major Madrid Universities. Spanish language courses will be part of the first year study.
Once the three year training period ends, the candidate will return to the UK and::
• Participate in the selection of external consultants in his field as subcontractors to Ferrovial Agroman.
• Define, coordinate, manage, challenge and supervise all aspects of the design and the external UK consultant(s) in his/her field.
• Review Construction Quantities produced by the consultants
• Participate in meetings with the Owner related to design issues.
• Prepare partial designs and conduct verification calculations to help in the design management, as guidelines for value engineering exercises, as part of QA, etc.
Skills:
Graduate degree in Civil Engineering or Electro-mechanical Engineering.
Specialized in one of the following disciplines: Structural, Roadway, Geotechnical, and Electro-Mechanical.
Strong commitment to improve education.
No experience necessary.
