The companyMy client who is are a large company and have a annual turnover of ?7.5 million and are wholly owned Local Authority company. They are looking to expand on their already impressive orderbook and therefore require a Highways Supervisor to manage some of the increasing workload.The organisation are looking to increase the workload and broaden their regions in which they operate in. With an already established client list they have ambitions to increase their turnover and profit.Job PurposeThe organisation co ordination and control of staff and sub contracts engaged on:The construction maintenance and repairs to all aspects of the highwayThe maintenance and repair of sewers and pumping stationsDemolition operationsKey Accountabilities: Lead and direct charge hands and operatives on contracts to ensure the most effective and economical use of resources and advise the Projects Manager of resources required. To collate and order through procurement/stores materials required completing contracts. Ensure that all work is carried out to programme and within the cost parameters and standard of the contract and in the case of term contracts to ensure that work is carried out in accordance with the system of priorities. Closely supervise all operations to ensure progress targets are met drawing attention to conditions or circumstances requiring additional or alternative work and negotiate agreements. Supervise staff involved in day to day works including training new and temporary staff as appropriate. Interpret drawings and advise Line Manager and Quantity Surveyors on most economical safe working methods. Assess and order equipment and plant through Transport Section / Procurement that is required to carry out such contracts. Check that all materials plant and vehicles are required and correctly issued and are being properly used to their best advantage ensuring that any materials over issued and any scrap recovered from works are returned to approved recovery areas. Provide technical advice and solutions to clients on all matters relating to the work. Carry out investigation and report on accidents and insurance claims involving the section. Control collate and verify timesheets job cards plant sheets vehicle sheets and other documentation as required. Ensuring that documents are returned to the Admin Assistant for processing in accordance with specified deadlines and procedures. Ensure that all plant and equipment is inspected before work commences and at prescribed intervals and all records are maintained. Assist in the recommendations for replacements as and when required. Assist in the preparation of work risk assessments in accordance with safety plans and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Ensure all extra works are recorded in order that variation orders can be pursued. Be available for emergency work which may involve participating in the organisation’s standby and call out rotas as required.
