Highways Inspector JobAn opportunity has arisen for a Highways Inspector in South London in an area with good transport links making this an accessible location. Job DescriptionYou will be responsible for inspecting and monitoring the borough#x2019;s highway network to ensure it is maintained in a safe and serviceable condition, and take action for non compliance under Highways Act and NRSWA. You will inspect the integrity and structure of the highway network, determine any appropriate remedial action that is required and raise task orders instructing the contractor to take action. You will also inspect and monitor utility and other promoter works on the public highway to ensure compliance with permit requirements and the council#x2019;s network management responsibilities. You will communicate effectively with Network Maintenance and Network Management colleagues and stakeholders in the delivery of the service. You will also advise internal and external stakeholders on highways and streetworks inspection and maintenance issues, including responding to elected members questions and dealing with enquiries from residents and members of the public. You will undertake surveys of the public highway at prescribed frequencies to ensure it is maintained in a safe condition, in accordance line with policies and procedures. You will also identify and record defects; raise Task orders for necessary remedial repairs and quality check works, authorize payment for necessary remedial repairs and works. You will also monitor general compliance with the requirements of the Highways Act and New Roads and Street Works Act and take action, up to and including enforcement action, for non compliance on range of high profile areas including obstruction and licenses illegal street works. You will also monitor and keep record of the activities of utility companies and contractors and other promoters of works on the public highway to ensure compliance with permits, including any associated traffic management controls. You will prepare inspection and over run reports; assemble evidence to support the issue of fixed penalty notice for non compliance. Person SpecificationYou should have knowledge of the Highways Act 1980 and key highway authority responsibilities, Sreetworks legislation including New Roads and Street Works Act Traffic Management Act. You should have experience of Highway safety inspection, Highway reinstatement methods and materials. You should also have effective negotiation and decision making, skills, be able to work to tight deadlines whilst consistently maintaining a high level of accuracy, use initiative, prioritizes workload and work unsupervised. A driving likens and use of own vehicle is also required.
