About the role

The Environment Agency operates at the place where environmental change has its greatest impact on people’s lives. It’s our job to create a better place for people and wildlife. Joining our Charlton Asset Performance team, you’ll play an important role in leading a skilled technical team to maintain and improve critical flood risk assets, ultimately protecting people, property and wildlife.

As Asset Performance Team Leader, you’ll be responsible for preparation, review and embedding of asset management plans. You will also provide input to operational plans and works collaboratively with both the TBAG Engineering team as well as the Thames Estuary Asset Management 2100 integrated delivery team (TEAM2100 IDT) to deliver asset management outcomes across the suite of assets. Delivering expert technical advice and guidance, you’ll make sure that your team are working in the most efficient and effective way possible to ensure all assets are inspected, quality assessed and maintained in order to reduce flood risk for people and property. You’re a credible leader - someone who is comfortable working in a pressurised environment and has the ability to engage and influence professional partners and communities on collaborative projects. As an experienced project manager, you’ll take responsibility for working with external partners such as contractors, drainage boards and local authorities to ensure work is delivered on time and to budget. Of equal importance will be the direction, support and professional guidance you’ll offer your team. Experts in their own right, you’ll be experienced in delivering results through your team and will be on hand to offer technical guidance when needed. You’ll also be involved in developing the strategic direction for the future of asset management in the area.

About you

First and foremost you’re a strong leader with experience of managing technical teams and a proven track record delivering large scale projects, ideally in the construction or civil engineering industry. An understanding of environmental sciences would be advantageous, but what we’re really looking for is your ability to motivate, inspire and lead. Driven and engaging, you’ll have exceptional communication and networking skills, and will be confident working a wide range of stakeholders at all levels. And your proactive approach and fresh perspective will ensure you’re always looking for ways we can improve.
