Are you seeking a career in the flood & water management sector?

Do you want to play a key part in delivering sustainable development and protecting communities from the risk of flooding?

Would you enjoy working in an environment with continual learning opportunities and access to flexible working?

If so, come and join our fantastic team!

We are looking for a SuDS and Flood Risk Engineer / Officer to provide technical advice and drive forward projects in Cambridgeshire. The Flood and Water team investigates and delivers innovative local flood risk management projects across Cambridgeshire, seeks to improve the water environment and provides technical engineering based advice on surface water management for new developments.

You will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high quality SuDS schemes across Cambridgeshire. This will be achieved by working closely with, and providing specialist advice and support to, developers, consultants, engineers and Local Planning Authorities, whilst also forming close partnerships with key stakeholders across Cambridgeshire.

In addition to helping fulfil our Lead Local Flood Authority statutory consultee role, there is flexibility to tailor the role according to your skills. For example there will be the opportunity to lead on projects such as our SuDS adoption initiative and SuDS retrofit schemes linked to Cambridgeshire’s Surface Water Management Plans. You could also get involved in a wide range of activities such as flood investigations, development of traditional and natural flood risk management schemes and the determination of consent applications for ordinary watercourses under the Land Drainage Act 1991.

You will have experience of working in this sector from a design or regulatory/public sector perspective and will be able to make independent decisions with minimal supervision. You will show initiative in developing new ideas and will need to be able to work well as part of a dynamic and busy team whilst managing your own workload. You must be a clear and confident communicator and negotiator capable of explaining complex technical matters clearly and sensitively. You must also be computer literate with experience of using databases and GIS. Training will be provided where required.

All of our work involves a high level of communication and a willingness to work and negotiate with developers and key stakeholders, to ensure the continued delivery of high quality outputs.

The team is based at Shire Hall in Cambridge but works across the whole of Cambridgeshire; therefore you must be willing to travel. It would be ideal if you hold a current driving licence. On a day-to-day basis we operate flexible working; including flexi-time, working from the County’s satellite offices or from home, and compressed hours.
