Cambridgeshire County Council are looking for highway project staff at all levels of experience to join a fast-paced projects team delivering small and medium-sized highway schemes across Cambridgeshire.

We’re looking for strong team players interested in working with a variety of professional and community partners across Cambridgeshire and you’ll be joining a team that prides itself in developing talent with a wide range of projects to deliver on a rolling annual programme.

Roles are currently available at Project Manager, Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Technician levels so regardless of your experience, if you think you have the right skills we want to hear from you.

About the service

Cambridgeshire County Council’s Place and Economy Directorate delivers services across areas such as transport, new infrastructure, roads, and the environment. It aims to manage and deliver the growth and development of sustainable communities, meet the challenges of climate change and enhance the natural environment. These roles are based within the Highways service which manages, maintains and improves the county’s transport network and is responsible for the county's transport assets.

These roles will be based at Vantage House, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire but has a flexible structure to cope with varying workload pressures and the post holder will be required to regularly work from a number of bases across Cambridgeshire.

About the roles

Project Manager

As Project Manager, you will be responsible for the performance of multi-agency project teams across a wide range of small and medium-sized highway projects.

This is a demanding but rewarding role in a fast-paced environment, suited to someone with experience of managing the development, planning and implementation of transport infrastructure and related projects. You will have strong project management and communication skills, and be able to demonstrate your ability to problem-solve and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders and partners from the community and other public and private organisations. You will also have broad knowledge and experience of Highways Contracts to ensure projects are delivered in accordance with Council’s Term Service Contract.

Engineer & Engineer (Bridges)

As an Engineer, you will be required to lead the delivery of a wide range of highway improvements and maintenance projects to deliver the Council’s objectives, engage with key partners and ensure that engagement with communities and businesses is at the heart of the service.

As a key member of the Projects Team you will have experience of the development, planning, design and implementation of transport infrastructure with strong project management and communication skills. Extensive knowledge of technical and contractual requirements is also a key aspect for this role.

Assistant Engineer

As an Assistant Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of a range of highway schemes, from minor improvements to major redesigns and carriageway reconstruction, taking them from feasibility through to construction and closeout.

You will have experience in the design, planning and construction of local transport projects, strong communication skills and a proactive approach to partnership working.

Technician

If you’re looking to start a career in highways this role could be ideal for you. As a Technician, you will work alongside project team members to deliver some of the service’s larger highway schemes as well as having responsibility for leading your own highway projects. The role is extremely varied and as such gives excellent opportunities to learn and develop as part of a great team.

You will need a willingness to learn, good communication skills and be able to demonstrate you can work as part of a team. No previous experience is necessary.
