Your new company
Your new company are a housing developer that have been associated with high quality design and build for more than a century. Ever since the day the company was founded and started a tradition of Great British building, they have grown and progressed to their current situation and now have regional offices across the UK, including the Midlands, the South West and the South East of England. With 1200 staff nationwide, they have expertise across a wide range of professions ensuring the highest possible quality in every area of design, construction and customer service. They now require a Structural Engineer to join them in their close-knit and friendly technical department in the Cheltenham office.

Your new role
The main purpose of your new role will be to undertake and design, supervision, management and negotiations culminating in sound structural solutions. You will be responsible carrying out all aspects of cost effective detailed structural engineering design including the production of all relevant working drawings as required. You will also assess all site investigations and make all other relevant departments aware of any potential risks and solutions thereafter. You'll be communicating, liaising and arranging meetings with NHBC and Local Authorities on structural matters to achieve the necessary approvals when needed, as well as liaising with external consultants and contractors.

What you'll need to succeed
You will need to to have 3 A' Levels or equivalent qualifications and an HNC / HND at technician level or above. You will ideally have 12 months working for a house builder or working with residential structures, however this is not essential. An in-depth knowledge of CAD and structural packages is required along with an understanding of changes to regulations and legislation. A good understanding of budget management, ability to analyse complex data and critically evaluate plans. You'll need to have the ability to visualise and explain design ideas and be a confident decision maker, problem solver and multi-tasker. Excellent communication skills are key and you will need to be a team player with an accurate eye for detail.
