The construction sector in New Zealand has grown in strength over the past two years with many companies now looking overseas for talented individuals to join their organisations. To date much of the focus has been on Auckland but in the past six months Wellington has also started to increase in activity with requirements for the city now coming thick and fast.

My client is one of the premier commercial construction companies in New Zealand, well established already in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland they are now looking to expand further into the regions. Their immediate requirement is for a commercial project manager to be based in Auckland as number one on a major project. Valued at $100 million the project requires an experienced project manager with a proven track record of delivering high-quality, on time and to budget.

As a project manager you will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience working for a construction contractor, with at least five years in a project management position. Your project experience can be varied, coming from sectors such as education, government, high rise, retail or commercial office development. Experience can be varied but you must be comfortable running projects with a value of £25 million or above. You will have excellent commercial and contractual understanding and will be able to bring your team along to the successful completion of the work. Other desirable requirements include;

  • A formal qualification or trade based background relating to the construction sector
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working with a construction contractor
  • Excellent communication and IT skills
  • A commitment to producing excellent results and creating a winning team environment
