Plymouth City Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated chartered engineer to lead the work of our busy Engineering Design Team.

Exciting, because Plymouth city region, following submission of our proposal for the Transforming Cities Fund in 2018, has been shortlisted by the Department for Transport and invited to co-develop proposals to transform transport infrastructure on key commuter routes.

Our vision is to become one of Europe’s most vibrant waterfront cities and through the passion and determination of our politicians, management team and staff we will make a difference for the city.The Authority already has a five year transport capital programme valued in excess of £66m and a“Pipeline” of capital schemes also valued at about £66m to bring forward over the next 5 years.The Engineering Design Group provides feasibility, outline and detailed design functions for transport schemes, structures and drainage, flood mitigation schemes and Sustainable Urban  Drainage Schemes (SUDS).

You will have the opportunity to work proactively with councillors, directors, other senior stakeholders and colleagues in neighbouring authorities to deliver key improvements to both the transport and flood and drainage infrastructure essential to the growth of the city.You will provide overall leadership and management of the Engineering Design Team as well as bringing extensive experience of providing design, professional and technical services for strategic transport schemes, drainage, flood risk management and SUDS.

You will have a degree level qualification in Civil Engineering or Highway related discipline and Chartered Engineer Status in Civil Engineering or Highways related discipline.
