About us

East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding. Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy. Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations.

About the role

Joining us as an Engineering Projects Manager, you’ll coordinate and manage a broad range of engineering work and deliver a number of exciting high profile projects for our £multi-million StreetScene service. Valued and vital, we’ll look to you as our engineering expert within the Council and you’ll provide the necessary technical leadership to ensure that high profile projects are achieved on time, on budget and to the highest standards.

Variety and challenge will be plentiful in your role as you take on a number of projects across key service areas of engineering; flood and coastal defence, beaches, bridges and structures, and infrastructure including play. These include the Feniton Flood Alleviation Scheme and Sidmouth Beach Management plan, which involve working with a diverse mix of stakeholders and seeking funding from partners including DEFRA. People management will be another important part of your role. Responsible for a small team of engineers, you’ll inspire and direct the operations of the team and organise their wide-ranging workload. Everything you do will make a valuable contribution to the environment, the lives of residents and the Council’s vision of making East Devon an outstanding place to live and work.

About you

An experienced engineering leader, you’ll have a relevant degree (or graduate membership or higher of the IET or ICE) and a track record of delivering engineering projects including coastal flood and asset management schemes. You’re confident and credible, inspirational and influential. Quick to build professional relationships, you pride yourself on effective leadership and working collaboratively to achieve high quality outcomes. You’ve an up-to-the-minute understanding of engineering and environmental issues, directives, developments and project management and procurement procedures. And you’re as good at managing people as you are projects. Whether you’re motivating members of your team or networking with stakeholders, you’ll communicate tactfully and effectively with everyone you meet. You’ll be able to stay calm and demonstrate empathy in challenging situations and embed confidence in the people you work with.
