Do you want to work for a city which is a national lead in delivering sustainable transport initiatives where you can make a real difference to the way people live, work and move around one of best places to live in the country?

There is a lot happening in York, ranging from major transport projects including: upgrading the outer ring road, the largest regeneration schemes in decades around the Railway Station, a new Community Stadium to significant transport initiatives such as the introduction of one of the largest electric bus fleets in the country.

This key position will influence the future shape and current operation of the city of York; you'll deal with strategic land use and development proposals from the initial masterplanning stages through to planning approval and implementation. You would need to ensure that the overarching objective of creating high quality, healthy and safe, streets and places is fulfilled. You will be passionate about sustainable transport and recognise the importance of encouraging travel on foot, cycle and public transport.

The role also includes the day to day challenges for a local highway authority, associated with public utility and highway works activities. The post holder will ensure that the council implements a Permitting Scheme for all associated works under NRSWA and the TMA. In addition, the business as usual activities of traffic regulation and management, are of great importance in a city with a challenging highway network, this including aspects such as controlled parking schemes, highway licensing, city centre access and event management.

Relocation expenses will be offered for this post.

For an informal discussion about the posts please contact James Gilchrist james.gilchrist@york.gov.uk on 01904 552547 before 5 August or Tony Clarke Tony.clarke@york.gov.uk on 01904 551641 after 5 August.

Closing date: Sunday 18 August 2019 at 12 midnight

Interview date: Week commencing 2 September 2019
