Do you want to work for a city which is a national lead in delivering sustainable transport initiatives where you can make a real difference to the way people live, work and move around one of best places to live in the country?

There is a lot happening in York, ranging from major transport projects including: upgrading the outer ring road, the largest regeneration schemes in decades around the Railway Station, a new Community Stadium to significant transport initiatives such as the introduction of one of the largest electric bus fleets in the country.

This key post is responsible for managing all work within the Adoptions team, which involves the key roles and duties of ensuring that new developments are built to adoption standards, disruption to the highway and its users is managed and works are undertaken in accordance with the regulations. Working alongside the Principal Development Control Engineers (Planning) you will provide assistance to the Traffic and Highway Development Manager, in a range of technical aspects and the promotion of sustainable modes of transport, a keen enthusiasm for the environmental aspects of development and knowledge of Sustainable Urban Drainage systems are integral aspects of the duties.

A key role will include liaising with developers and consultants to explain the requirements of the Highway Authority in order to create healthy and safe neighbourhoods, overseeing the Technical Approval process of new developments and the provision of the necessary legal agreements. Knowledge of highway design, law and construction is necessary.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
