Do you want to work for a city which is a national lead in delivering sustainable transport initiatives where you can make a real difference to the way people live, work and move around one of best places to live in the country?

There is a lot happening in York, ranging from major transport projects including: upgrading the outer ring road, the largest regeneration schemes in decades around the Railway Station, a new Community Stadium to significant transport initiatives such as the introduction of one of the largest electric bus fleets in the country.

We have a key opportunity available for a manager to lead on the development of transport policies for the city. A city which has a nationally recognised pedigree in delivering sustainable transport objectives and has successfully bid for Access Fund and Office of Low Emission Vehicle grants over recent years.

Reducing the need to travel by car is the key aspiration of the Council and the existing Local Transport Plan and essential for the delivery of sustainable growth in the city. This role will manage the collection of accurate background data and use it to develop new policies building upon the existing high cycling and walking levels and recent sustained public transport growth.

A key element of the role will be to ensure the benefits of technological progress such as electric and connected/autonomous vehicles are embedded into new policies

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.

For an informal discussion about the posts please contact James Gilchrist james.gilchrist@york.gov.uk on 01904 552547 before 5 August or Tony Clarke Tony.clarke@york.gov.uk on 01904 551641 after 5 August

Closing date: Sunday 18 August 2019 at 12 midnight

Interview date: Week commencing 16 September 2019
