Who we are
When you think about it, water is the most basic human need. So what we do at Welsh Water is incredibly important – we give three million customers safe, clean water, take away their dirty water and help to protect our beautiful environment.
It’s an awesome responsibility, and we have to earn our customers’ trust every single day. Being the only not-for-profit company in the water industry is certainly a good start. Every single penny we make goes back into looking after their water and environment, rather than going to the pockets of shareholders.
What we do
We use hydraulic models of our potable water supply network to analyse the system’s behaviour, to determine the effect of any changes, and investigate remedial measures and improvements. Putting our customers at the forefront of what we do is an important responsibility for the team, and ensuring that we work collaboratively across the Welsh Water to guarantee that we do this is essential.
As a Hydraulic Modelling Engineer, you will need to demonstrate strong communication skills, alongside technical leadership, to ensure that we are fully involved in operational issue resolution, work prioritisation and solution development.

- Offering flexibility and participating in a standby rota to support Operations during incidents, alongside being able to work comfortably in a high pressured situation.
- Delivering Hydraulic Modelling Assessments to time and budget, working closely with Developer Services, understanding network reinforcement requirements.
- Assisting the Water Engineering Programme Manager with the delivery of Zonal Studies. This involves managing relationships with Modelling Framework Partners, ensuring Welsh Water’s standards and specifications are adhered to at all times.
- Supporting innovation initiatives to drive further value from hydraulic modelling, including communicating the benefit of some more specialised modelling streams of Water Hammer Surge Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamic Modelling
- Managing the Model Library, this consists of Hydraulic, Water Hammer and Computational Fluid Dynamic models.
