The construction market in New Zealand has been busy for the past few years and is currently lifting again meaning further requirements for Project Managers and Senior Project Managers with commercial construction experience. Auckland remains the construction powerhouse but other regions are getting busier and as such there are requirements in Wellington, Christchurch, the Waikato and Queenstown.

My client is one of the premier construction companies in New Zealand and is well established throughout the main centres of the North and South Islands. Due to an increase in work throughout the country they are looking for multiple Project Manager and Senior Project Manager to fill a number of roles. Specialists in their field they work in the government, education, commercial and industrial sectors on projects ranging in value from $10 million to over $100 million. The current requirement is for professionals with experience of running projects with a value of $30 million or above.

As a Project Manager/Senior Project Manager you will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience working for a tier 1 or tier 2 construction contractor and have a track record of delivering successful projects. Your project experience can be varied, coming from sectors such as education, government, high rise, retail or commercial office development but you must be comfortable running projects with a value of £30 million or above. You will have excellent commercial and contractual understanding and will be adept at getting the best from the team around you. You will be the face of the project and so as well as bringing the operational, commercial and programming teams together you will also be in regular contact with clients, designers and other stakeholders. Other desirable requirements include;

  • A formal qualification or trade based background relating to the construction sector
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working with a construction contractor
  • Excellent communication and IT skills
  • A commitment to producing excellent results and creating a winning team environment
