This is an exciting vacancy available in the Technical Standards and Building Information Modelling Team within the Estates Directorate in the Ministry of Justice.

The Technical Standards and BIM Team ensure that all new build and refurbishment construction projects conform with Health, Safety, Security and Legislative requirements that are not mandated elsewhere or where our specific build type has a slightly different requirement. We liaise closely with the business to ensure our standards are appropriate and up-to-date. We provide advice and guidance at all stages of the estate’s life cycle.

The successful implementation of digital construction including Building Information Modelling (BIM) is critical as part of the Cabinet Office’s implementation of Government Construction Strategy. As a pathfinder organisation, the development of digital construction capability is highly visible at Cabinet Office level and informs the digital construction and BIM strategy of other Government and non-government organisations.

Summary of Role:

This is a key role that will build upon the work that MOJ has done as a pathfinder Government Department to develop and implement BIM. The post holder will support the Head of Technical Standards & BIM in ensuring that the way BIM is used is consistent with the requirements of the department.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Building an organisational adoption of BIM
  • Developing and implementing a five-year BIM delivery strategy including the switch from BS1192 series to ISO19650
  • Establish short and long-term objectives for organisational and individual staff BIM maturity / confidence
  • Represent Shared Estate interests and support other Government departments on cross-Government working groups
  • Providing policy and project-specific leadership to support the deployment of BIM strategies (people, process and software)
  • Lead the MOJ’s BIM Special Interest Group (SIG) with our supply chain of consultants, constructors and FM providers.
  • Oversee the flow and storage of digital and non-digital information ensuring that the balance of confidentiality, integrity and availability is achieved within the appropriate guidelines
  • Manage a team of specialist technicians comprising of in-house staff resource, framework consultants and secondment programme interns (when required).
  • Draft reports and papers on BIM issues, updating and writing Technical Specifications and Guidance.
  • Dealing with queries on Technical Specifications and Guidance from any source, including supply chain, manufacturers, members of the public, lawyers, etc.
