Our client, a highly successful, international structural and civil engineering firm is looking for their next strategic hire - at Associate Director level! A capable all round structural engineer is required, with excellent Business Development skills - actively pursuing new opportunities, winning work and proactively developing existing and new clients relationships. The ability to bring a portfolio of clients to the role would be ideal but is not essential.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer to join this new and emerging team and take up the first structural position within this office. The ideal candidate will be technically sound and have experience in managing and developing a technical team with responsibility for project delivery and bid writing. It is essential that the successful Associate Director has all round experience and capabilities in both the client and team development aspects.

Projects: primarily within the residential sector (PRS and Student Resi), but also Education, Logistics, Hotel, Commercial and Retail.

Responsibilities:

  • Taking leadership on prospecting new clients, to develop business and maintaining a mutually beneficial relationship,
  • Win business for the company by having developed your own network of Structural Engineering clients within the Birmingham area,
  • Nurturing and maintaining existing client relationships and securing repeat business,
  • Provide leadership, management and technical quality to the structures team,
  • Contributing to board meetings,
  • Planning, targeting, structuring and implementing business plans,
  • Staff management including the recruitment of new staff,
  • Taking the lead on training members of the structural team, ensuring their professional development,
  • Leading and managing projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and to budget, and that clients are satisfied.

Requirements:

  • Must be a Chartered Engineer within a relevant institution (MICE/MIStructE),
  • Must have a minimum of 15 years' experience, with at least 5 years' in a leadership role,
  • Excellent business development skills,
  • Experience taking the lead on & managing a range of building structures projects (both new build & refurbishment) through to completion,
  • Complete professional knowledge and an understanding of the construction industry
  • Market facing, commercially focussed, capable of independent and strategic thinking,
  • An agent of change, a positive role model, operationally capable and centred on delivery,
  • Capability and experienced in managing and performing projects in a fast paced environment,
  • Proven track record of effective communication skills, both oral and written.

Managing a structures team will be a large part of this role and you should therefore be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate your team.
