This is a consultancy role with a leading forensic engineering consultancy. Our client is looking for a senior chartered engineer to deliver on-going ad-hoc assignments to investigate and establish the cause of problems affecting buildings and civil structures. Assignments commence with a physical survey, concluding with the completion of a report identifying the cause of structural failure and will typically last two to three days. The requirement is driven by increasing business volumes, especially in the North of UK where demand is expected to continue growing.
You will be joining a multi-discipline team of experts drawn from the mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, geotechnical, materials science, environmental, transportation and fire protection sectors. They work on behalf of major insurers, loss adjusters and legal firms.
You must be a chartered civil (MICE) or chartered structural (MIStructE) engineer who as operated at /associate/principal/director level, whilst retaining a strong technical focus. The workload will cover structures in the commercial, residential, commercial, transportation, industrial sectors and beyond. This will involve carrying out and managing site investigations of failures affecting superstructures and sub-structures. You will consider the implications of the design, construction methodology, materials, loadings, environmental issues and location of the structure. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential. You will work closely with insurers, loss adjusters, legal representatives and building owners. Your findings, which will identify the cause of the failure, will take the form of a report that can be understood by those form a non-technical background whilst being able to withstand scrutiny from legal, insurance and technical professionals.
