Chief Civil Engineer

Our client, a prestigious tier one contractor has a reputation for delivering high-profile projects, and as an employer providing excellent working conditions and terms of employment. This senior technical leadership position has responsibility for their civil engineering design team, a key component of their multidisciplinary design division, providing civil design expertise and advice for projects throughout the UK.

Your workload will focus on heavy civil engineering, covering major transportation projects with clients such as HS2, Highways England, Network Rail and the civil engineering associated with building  projects typically for power, healthcare, commercial, transportation and industrial schemes. As a discipline lead you will oversee a team of fourteen and report to the company’s head of engineering design. You will be part of a multi-discipline design division employing close to one hundred personnel, comprising of civil, structural, architectural, temporary works and geotechnical engineers and technicians. It is long established division with low staff turnover, a culture of collaboration and support, providing easy access to specialist expert advice.

You will need to be a chartered civil engineer with heavy civil engineering design and management experience, gained within a contracting environment. A strong technical background is essential, you will be managing the delivery of design works starting from pre-construction and buildability stages, selecting design methodologies, programming design outputs, supervising and approving completed  design works. As discipline lead you will provide civil engineering advice to colleagues from other engineering disciplines and provide mentorship to engineers in your team, some of whom are working towards achieving ICE chartered status. Continued professional development and on the job training is structured and part of the company’s ethos. Your experience should be broad within a civil engineering context, it should ideally include road and rail expertise, a growing and important element of their current and future workload.
