Job Details

An opportunity for an electrical engineer to use their expertise in a new sector and forge a career in forensic engineering. Working for this world leading forensic company will provide training and progression, and an especially broad and intriguing workload. Your role will be to investigate and determine the cause of failures, faults, accidents and breakdowns in areas including nuclear, energy, manufacturing, building services, transportation, automotive, electrical & mechanical products and more. The work you are allocated will centre on your area of expertise and will be varied, in-house and external expertise is available, plus additional laboratory and testing resources. You will join a team of mechanical, electrical, scientific, software and engineering & construction professionals, most recruited directly from industry for their practical and technical insight. Their expertise is used to improve design and manufacturing, settle claims, enhance safety and reliability and for witness services during litigation.

They are looking for an electrical engineer with broad experience. This should include strong technical knowledge gained in a design environment, or similar, with the ability to understand the real-world practical implications of design.  The position can be home or office based, investigations start with a physical survey often requiring a site visit. This will, outside of current restrictions, require occasional travel in the UK and to mainland Europe. For a successful career in forensic engineering you will need to be a lateral thinker who enjoys problem solving. Good communication skills are essential, the culmination of your investigations and root cause analysis is a report on your findings. You will be trained to do this, but must already have the ability to write well. Reports are written to be understood by people with a non-technical background, they may also be scrutinised during the course of litigation and to settle claims, some of which are substantial in value and can be of significant importance. You should have a 2:1 degree or above in electrical engineering from a recognised university and at least four years industry experience. Our client will also look favourably at candidates qualified to HND level, if they are talented and progressed through a practical route to develop a deep technical understanding.

On offer is an intriguing and rewarding career. It provides career development and training in a profession that is consistently busy whilst commanding high fee margins. The forensic industry also offers good security, it is less effected by the adverse economic cycles that can effect parts of the electrical engineering sector.
