Job Details

Lethaby & Cook are the exclusive recruiter for this position. It is a rare opportunity to apply your civil engineering expertise and gain invaluable management experience in a new sector. This is a key role at the upper echelons of motorsport, a multi-billion pound sector where the UK excels. It is also, after careful analysis by our client's CEO and executive team, a position best suited to a civil engineering professional.

The Company:

Our client owns and operates circuits throughout the UK, staging competitions and series at the pinnacle of competitive motorsport, in addition to a range of specialist racing, testing & development, track activities, teaching and associated events and hospitality. Their assets are extensive, they include racing circuits, associated roads and infrastructure, drainage, paddocks, buildings, stands, bridges and landscaping. They have annual capex projects and facilities that require maintenance, frequent modifications and updates.

The Role:

Engineering & Construction - Based at their East Midlands facilities you will oversee the design and construction of building and civil engineering projects, and the on-going improvement and maintenance of facilities. This will involve specifying works, occasional design work within your area of expertise, appointing contractors and consultants, managing projects and the management of an on-site team of maintenance staff. As the company’s in-house engineering and construction expert you will provide advice and input on civil and structural works at their other facilities.

Management - The position will mean developing invaluable new management expertise, it is this that makes the position such an interesting opportunity. With the support of a highly capable circuit based team that includes the managers of operations, catering, events and other specialists, you will have overall responsibility for the circuits’ operations ensuring it is ready for day to day activities and prepared for future events. You will receive close support and guidance from colleagues who manage other circuits to develop the knowledge and skills you need. The company is highly successful with established methods of working and provides a structure that will enable you to carry out your responsibilities effectively.

About you:

A civil engineer with ten or more years consulting, contracting or client-side experience. You will need a record of managing your own projects and have had some responsibility for supervising staff. A broad background that includes knowledge of roads, drainage and buildings is beneficial. An eye for detail and good organisational skills are essential, as are well developed interpersonal skills. Your professional experience needs to be backed up by a good academic background, requiring a degree in civil engineering from a reputable university.

Special Considerations:

There will be the need to work at weekends during the race season for which you will receive days off in lieu. Sponsors provide a fleet of high-performance vehicles which are used on site and for travel between circuits. You must have a clean UK driving licence or a licence that has not incurred serious or multiple penalties. Driving records are checked prior to employment.

UK Employment Status:

You will need currently eligibility to work in the UK. Unfortunately, assistance with visas or sponsorship is not available.
