Do you want a rewarding work-life balance with the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting, rewarding projects helping with our key construction challenges in the City, where we put our customers at the centre of the work we do?

You’ll assist in enforcing the Building Regulations and allied legislation, by providing structural engineering support to development proposals through the Building Control process from the pre-application stage, through to completion on site. You’ll also be responsible for responding to dangerous structure reports and taking the appropriate action supported by the Building control team leader.

As one of the largest cities in the South West of England and one of the country’s core cities, Bristol is a vibrant, historic and multi-cultural city that is enjoying a level of growth within the construction industry. With a multitude of development from all aspects of the construction spectrum the opportunities and challenges faced by the construction professional are second to none.

We are currently seeking an experienced Civil & Structural Engineer with a Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering and Chartered with the Institution of Structural Engineers or Institution of Civil Engineers to join our team in Bristol City Council. The role requires proficiency in superstructure and substructure design to UK design codes (Eurocodes desirable), and good knowledge of main materials of construction. Providing technical expertise and engineering skills and extensive knowledge in building structures, you’ll need a high degree of technical judgement as a significant part of the work carried out in building control is directly related to structural engineering in assessment for compliance with Part A of the building regulations.

You’ll also support the site inspection team during the build process, as well as a number of other key roles regarding the Dangerous structures service, advising on Safety at Sport Grounds and other matters where structural knowledge is required such as advice to planning department on feasibility of the proposed development.

The role will also provide you with an insight and training in other building regulations requirements.

You will be given the opportunity to work on a variety of projects enabling you to build on your existing experience, with an expectation to put our customers at the centre of the work we do.
