Principal Engineer Highways Development

We are looking for an accomplished Highways Engineer or Transport Planner with a strong background in highways development or transport planning to manage and coordinate the work of a team dealing with all aspects of highways development control including dealing with significant planning applications, input into Neighbourhood Plans/Local Development Framework, appeals including public inquiries, agreements for off-site highway works and the development of Design Briefs. A key element to the role will be to ensure that prompt and accurate responses are given on planning applications, pre-applications and advice to internal and external bodies, officers and members.

Fundamental to the role will be the ability to provide leadership that commands respect, trust and confidence and which empowers colleagues and staff to achieve results. Equally you will represent the service area and deputise for the Transport Development Services Manager when necessary. An understanding of local government and some of the political complexities of working within it will be particularly advantageous.
