Principal Civil Design Engineer

A Principal Civil Engineer is required by one of the world's leading design consultancies, to be based in London. You will be playing a key role as part of the national team of civil engineers who specialise in development infrastructure.

You will be responsible for and undertake the design or elements of design for drainage, highways and connecting infrastructure for a wide variety and scale of developments across all industry sectors.

You should have a background in highways or drainage with the flexibility to work on both and integrate well within multidisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for the mentoring and support of our more junior engineers whilst you manage your own projects, contribute to larger schemes and have a role in the continuing development of our national team
As well as taking on technical engineering challenges relating to design you will also project manage and drive forward civil engineering infrastructure projects.

Job responsibilities will include:

• Leading the delivery of infrastructure design.
• Managing technical and commercial project delivery.
• Providing technical oversight and direction.
• Providing a client focused service which results in on-going satisfaction and repeat business.
• Building effective relationships within teams, across the organisation and externally.
• Providing leadership to a small team with line manager responsibilities.
• Producing project reports for client and internal reporting requirements.
• Supporting work-winning initiatives.
• Contributing to developing the company's business including technical skills development

You need to be commercially aware, capable of winning work and able to assist in the mentoring and development of others.


Minimum Requirements:

• Good communication skills with Clients and project stakeholders.
• The ability to oversee and produce the design of highways, access roads and infrastructure of projects including the design of road geometry, public realm, earthworks, pavements, drainage and services
• An awareness of road design using 3D computer modelling packages, such as Civil 3D.
• A knowledge of drainage design including piped systems, SuDS based systems and familiarity with storage design and computer programs such as MicroDrainage.
• Experience of producing Flood Risk Assessments.
• The ability to compile specifications and drawings for tender and construction.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Chartered Engineer, or equivalent combination of education and experience
