The Highways and Drainage Services Section are looking to recruit a Flood Risk Officer to assist with the delivery of the Council's flood risk management responsibilities. Due to the increase in significant storm events in recent years, delivering effective flood risk management is now more important than ever and there are many exciting projects currently being delivered by the Highways and Drainage section.

The post requires a good working knowledge of Flood Risk Management and the duties set out in the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and Flood Risk Regulations 2009.

The successful applicant must have experience in delivering these services as well as experience in supervising major projects.

You will be required to undertake general and principal inspections of drainage structures, to identify required works, and assist in the formulation and implementation of Drainage Capital and Maintenance Contracts, Asset Management Plans and Works Programmes.  Effective communication by way of technical report writing, as well as verbally is essential for this post.

The Highways and Drainage Services Section undertake various works throughout the Borough and are often the first respondents to emergency events such as flooding. The section is committed to providing both a proactive and reactive service; therefore the successful applicant must have the ability to work within a team where priorities change quickly. 

The post requires a recognised qualification in Civil Engineering or a similar discipline at Higher National Certificate level or equivalent.

Welsh language skills are not necessary.
