Design Manager

Our client is a successful engineering consultancy who are in the enviable position of having secured a healthy orderbook. As a result they are looking to expand the design management team at their Cambridge office.

Reporting to their Development Director the ideal candidate will be responsible for the management and delivery of design information across both pre-construction and construction stage of projects which include Education, Healthcare, Assisted Living, Residential and Commercial.

You will be a good communicator who is comfortable working in a client facing role as part of a wide project team, having experience of various tender processes, procurement methods, and forms of contract.

Responsibilities:

• Defining design scopes, responsibility matrices etc and ensuring the appointed design team carry out their duties as defined (including the lead designer),
• Produce and monitor a design programme and deliverables schedule,
• Review and interrogation of Employers Requirements documentation,
• Lead risk and opportunity appraisals and control the risk and opportunities register to ensure risks are mitigated, and opportunities are realised,
• Monitor any design issues on the project risk register,
• Maintain a drawing and specification register as designs develops,
• Review technical submissions from the design team and appointed subcontract designers to ensure compliance with the Employers Requirements, relevant legislation and technical requirements,
• Chair design workshop and technical review meetings / stakeholder engagement meetings,
• Attend site progress meetings and coordinate design progress reports,
• Attend site when required in support of the delivery team.

Requirements:

• A degree in civil engineering,
• A Chartered Engineer,
• A minimum of 8 years' post graduate experience,
• Previous experience of leading and managing a team.
