The Engineering Design Section is based at the main Bridgend County Borough Council Civic (BCBC) Offices in the heart of Bridgend Town Centre.

The office benefits from very good transport links. It is 5 minutes on foot from the main bus station, 10 minutes on foot from the main line railway station and 10 minutes by car from the M4 motorway. BCBC operates a subsidised car parking scheme for the local parking facilities in and around the town centre.

Bridgend Town Centre has a large variety of shops, supermarkets, banks, restaurants and the main post office which can be useful for day to day transactions during lunchtime. Bridgend leisure centre is conveniently located only 5 minutes from the offices and regularly used by BCBC staff. BCBC operates a flexible working model to meet the demands of a modern day lifestyle; there is a generous holiday entitlement which may be supplemented with the option to purchase additional leave and an above average pension contribution.

The Engineering Design Section has several Principal Engineers experienced in highways, project management and contract administration. There are currently three Engineers, one Technician and two Inspectors. Our work varies from municipal engineering, civil engineering, structural design, demolitions and inspections. The office uses the latest 3D design software and we have invested in high spec computers for our future IT needs. All team members are fully supported in their development and undergo a mandatory annual appraisal to set business objectives and individual learning targets which are monitored. BCBC with RCT and Merthyr are part of a joint venture company with Capita Consultants called REDSTART. REDSTART supports and enhances BCBC’s in-house delivery capability. Our in-house clients include Regeneration, Waste Management, Education, Property, Network Management and Transportation. The Engineering Design Section is structured to operate with a trading account and is self-funded through the commissions it receives and projects it delivers.

If the work life balance orientated culture of BCBC and the Engineering Design Section attracts your interest, we would welcome your application.

We are seeking an experienced principal structural engineer to work within our Engineering Design Section. The post holder will be expected to deliver a variety of projects in the fields of building structures, highway structures design and undertake the associated preparation of drawings and contract documents.

This is a career opportunity for the right candidate to join a team operating in a multi-disciplined service that provides technical support and advice to a range of internal and external clients.

The successful applicant should have a progressive and versatile attitude, and be flexible in their approach.  The role will require the supervision of staff within the design team, primarily concerned with building structures/highway structures design but not necessarily limited to those areas of engineering.

IMPORTANT

Applicants MUST comprehensively demonstrate their experience and how it meets the job description and person specification criteria for consideration to the interview stage. Short or brief answers will NOT assist the evaluation process. The applicant MUST provide sufficiently detailed responses.
