Senior MU Designer - major projects

They are responsible for the Infrastructure Installations for a range of clients who see them as market leaders. As a Senior Electrical Designer / Utilities Designer you will be responsible for the design of gas/water/electrical supplies on projects ranging from £50K to £3 million across the UK.

The majority of the design work will be biased towards electricity, however a good understanding or willingness to learn about gas / water supplies is essential.

Your new role

• Manage a portfolio of multi-utility designs during their design phase.
• Produce / co-ordinate technically competent, compliant and cost-effective electric, gas, water, and telecoms designs.
• Produce bills of materials and liaise with manufacturers to order main plant items as required.
• Engage specialist subcontractors as required to fulfil the needs of each project.
• Maintain contractual awareness of projects and timescales for delivery.
• Maintain commercial awareness of projects and work within assigned budgets / inform others if this is not possible.
• Provide ongoing support to other departments and our clients throughout the project lifecycle (tender, design, construction).
• Maintain an awareness of company policies / procedures and ensure compliance at all times.
• Provide guidance / hands-on support to other members of the design team as required.
• Review / comment upon electrical designs produced by design team to ensure high quality, prior to their submission to adopting bodies.

What you'll need to succeed

• BEng Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Chartered/Incorporated Engineer OR working towards (desirable)
• Experience in design work on all electrical voltages from 400V up to 11kV
• Good understanding of working with the utilities sector (electrical distribution, gas networks / water supply)
• Experience of design software packages (AutoCAD, WinDEBUT, Amtech Protect)
