The nation’s investment in flood and coastal defences has helped to protect properties and reduce the impacts of flooding on lives and livelihoods. Between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2027, the government is investing a further £5.2 billion in reducing the risks of flooding and coastal erosion. Alongside the construction of hard flood defences, our programme will seek to incorporate natural flood management and climate change allowances into the design of our schemes as well as create habitats for wildlife.
Our Partnership and Strategic Overview (PSO) teams support the whole lifecycle of our flood and coastal risk management assets, working with communities, professional partners and other organisations to protect us all from flood risk. Whether you’re analysing data to inform plans or developing strategic approaches to protect people and property, your skills are vital for our future.
We’re looking for someone who can translate our National Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy and DEFRA 25-year plan into actions, help us adapt to a changing climate and improve community resilience.
As a senior specialist, you’ll be part of a team providing strategic direction and delivery, working with our National team to implement it at the local level.
You’ll develop and lead a shared vision for a place or catchment, building our skills and nurturing relationships with Risk Management Authority (RMA) partners to deliver a collaborative vision.
You’ll do this via several approaches, including strategic flood and coastal planning and climate adaptation. You’ll identify cross-cutting issues and seek opportunities to deliver risk management while supporting growth and infrastructure development.
We’re looking for a strategic leader with programme and project management experience. To succeed, you’ll need to demonstrate your partnership working, stakeholder engagement, influencing and persuasion skills. You’ll also have a relevant degree and be chartered, or working towards it, with a professional body such as CIWEM.
