Job Details

This is an opportunity to apply your consulting engineering experience within the contracting sector. Our client is a successful, long established and rapidly growing contractor, they provide turnkey design and construction services to the rail sector throughout the UK, and across civil, structural, mechanical and electrical disciplines. Their key clients are Network Rail and Transport for London, they provide a varied and on-going workload which is delivered economically and to the highest standards. At the heart of the business is a very capable design division, this appointment will provide technical oversight and report to the head of design and the managing director. It is a position that will allow you to apply your technical expertise and develop your managerial skills. A growing pipeline of work means their technical division is continuously evolving and improving, an ideal environment to use your lateral thinking skills and to apply your own ideas and style.  

Your role will include; the day to day management of a small civil and structural design team, with specific project management responsibility for design involvement and progress, technical contact and liaison with clients, on site construction teams and sub-contractors, resolving technical and constructability issues, guidance and mentoring of junior engineers and technicians, ensuring compliance to quality standards, co-ordination with MEP disciplines, providing input with business and client development.

The civil and structural engineering topics will be broad, covering reinforced concrete, steel and masonry structures, foundations and drainage. Projects include station improvements, signalling, new roof canopies, escalators, marshalling yards, permanent way, power/power distribution and platform extensions.

About You:  A chartered civil (MICE) or chartered structural (MIStructE) engineer with ten or more years’ experience gained with a consulting practice or working in a technical capacity for a contractor. A design background is essential, this should have provided knowledge of working with most commonly used materials. Project design and delivery expertise that includes close working with clients and management of junior engineers /technicians. A professional and friendly bearing is essential, you should be able to work in a team environment and provide constructive leadership and guidance to your team, clients and colleagues.
