Building Structures Project Engineer

A building structures engineer ready to take on more management responsibility is required by a leading firm. Working for this practice that are both engineers and architects involves close collaboration with your architectural colleagues and more influence at concept stages. As a building structures project engineer your role will begin at front-end design and advisory stages and move through to design delivery. You will be a senior member of the firm’s structural team and report to one of their senior structural associates. You will provide guidance and leadership to intermediate level engineers and graduates to ensure design production is delivered on time and to the right standards. Their projects are technically challenging, innovative and often high-profile schemes. They work on major projects in the health care, pharmaceutical, corporate HQ, technology, airport, hotel and commercial sectors.

Experience required: The position requires a mix of technical, organisational and interpersonal skills. You will need to be a building structures engineer with at least four years building structures design experience using Eurocodes. This will have given you experience designing in steel, concrete and ideally some masonry and timber exposure. Knowledge of design software such as Tekla Structural Designer, ETABS Autodesk Robot or similar packages is essential. If you are not already professionally qualified you should be working towards ICE or IStructE membership, support will be provided. The ability to communicate well is vital to leading and instructing your team and during design meetings with architects and other disciplines. As a large part of your responsibility is ensuring timely production you will need to be able to programme your work and ensure project milestones are achieved.
