Leeds City Council- Senior Bridge Engineer opportunity

Hays Civil Engineering are proud to be working in partnership with Leeds City Council to recruit an number of exceptional candidates for the positions in their Bridges Section.

About Leeds City Council
Leeds is an economic powerhouse and is the second largest local authority in the UK by population and geographical area serving a population of over 800,000.

Our ambition is to be the best city and to be the 'best council' in the UK; fair, open, and welcoming with an economy that is both prosperous and sustainable, so all our communities are successful.

The city is supported by the largest local authority highway network in England. A transformational transport strategy is being developed and one of the largest city transport infrastructure investment programmes is being delivered. The overall aim of this is to move the city away from the "motorway city of the 1970s" to one where sustainable transport and active travel play a major role and there is no need to own a car.

There is no better time to consider a career with Leeds City Council given this level of ambition.

About the role:
As the Senior Bridge Engineer, you will be responsible for supervising a group of Engineers providing first-class client service for all aspects of highway structures including the preparation of briefs for assessment, investigation and inspection, maintenance, strengthening, reconstruction and new construction.

You will be accountable for providing a consultancy service for all aspects of highway structures including asset management, feasibility studies, design and assessment, inspections, maintenance and contract management.

Forward planning, resourcing, and budgetary control, will form part of your priorities, as will assisting the Group Engineer for the monitoring of abnormal load movements within West Yorkshire on behalf of the District Councils.

About you:
to be successful in this position you will ideally be degree qualified and an Incorporated Engineer with an appropriate professional institution (AMICE or similar) or have extensive equivalent appropriate experience.

You will have extensive experience in methods of assessment in one or more of the following: Application Form, Test, Interview, and Certificate.

You will be a proven leader of people and projects with the ability to empower colleagues and staff to achieve results.

What you will get in return:
As the Senior Engineer you will provide positive solutions to achieving diversity and equality in all aspects of service delivery, community engagement areas, focusing on equality of outcome and actively supporting the continuous improvement initiatives of cross Council projects and supporting the Service Management Team.

You can expect to achieve a basic salary of £35,745-£38,890 coupled with a generous leave entitlement of at least 32 days annually including statutory requirement, optional membership of the West Yorkshire Pension scheme and other competitive benefits.

The position will be based in high-quality, recently refurbished city Centre offices at Merrion House in the heart of Leeds City Centre, although the council is currently operating a flexible, agile working environment due to COVID-19, and they anticipate this to be the future of work at the Local Authority.
