Senior Civil Engineer (Site Based, Major Project Supervision)

An opportunity to gain experience on one of the UK’s largest and more complex civil engineering projects. Our client is looking for a civil engineer with site based experience of temporary works, basement or underground structures construction. Your role will be to oversee work being carried out by the contractor on behalf of the design consultant during the construction of  Silvertown Tunnel in East London. The scheme, valued at over a billion pounds, is at early piling stages and due to complete in 2025. The position is partly site and partly office based, with occasional visits to the construction consortiums’ project office in Canary Wharf.     

Working alongside the project’s design manager, you will be the company’s main site based presence, providing a vital link to the design team. Duties will include the supervision of inspection and test plans, identification, and scheduling of work to be witnessed and the raising of compliance and design queries. You will help to establish a system for technical queries and materials approvals and report on non-conformance issues.  

About You. Site based supervision experience is essential, preferably with time spent working for a civil engineering contractor. You will need good technical skills and be a degree qualified civil engineer or construction professional. This is a key role influencing the project’s correct and successful construction. It requires a collaborative approach and excellent organisational and communication skills.
