Assistant Design Manager -Pilling

Location: Nationwide either based outside of Manchester/Dartford Office

Occasional site visit across UK.

Laing O'Rourke have an exciting opening in the Geotechnical and Design Management team for an Assistant Design Manager with Pilling experience. You will be involved across various projects and site locations and be art of the Laing O'Rourke Geotechnical team, generally assigned to Expanded Piling design team.

What will the role look like?

  • Practical training operational background in perhaps site investigation, tunnelling etc.
  • Review of site investigations, specifications and preparation of bearing and retaining wall pile designs. Initially under close supervision.
  • Review of test pile results and involvement in trouble-shooting / resolution of project design related issues and changes
  • Previous design reviews and carrying out pilling is essential
  • Having the commercial awareness, estimators and costing would be essential to the role
  • Support with bid-winning schedules
  • Selection and design of the most efficient foundation solution using the most appropriate materials and safe systems of work.
  • Comply with Health and Safety legislation, group and industry standards.
  • Application of engineering principles in the preparation of calculations/drawings/sketches and resolution of engineering challenges within specialist area of knowledge.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • Proven technical & professional competence as an geotechnical engineer
  • Degree in civil Engineering, Structural/Geo Technical Engineering
  • Software experience in AdSec
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Plaxis software
  • Experience of piling and retaining structures an advantage
  • Familiarity with FE and modelling packages an advantage
  • Commercial awareness & astuteness
  • Understanding of geotechnical processes and their optimum use
  • Experience of recent geotechnical modelling packages an advantage or well-developed digital literacy is required.
