Civil/ Structural Engineer ( Move to a new sector)

An opportunity to apply your engineering and construction expertise in a new direction. The position would appeal to an engineer looking to change sectors whilst making full use of their engineering knowledge. Your role will be to work with engineering consultancies and civil /building contractors to drive innovation and improve profitability by using government led research and development incentives. This under-utilised scheme, in the case of engineering and construction, is worth many billions annually. Our client combines the skills of financial specialists with industry experts, in this case a civil engineering / construction professional, to understand and realise this valuable benefit.

The Position: Working alongside a partner you will provide industry and technical insight to help examine the work being carried out by contractors, consultants and developers. You will help establish if client activities or specific projects seek to achieve a technological advance or have overcome a technological challenge. Examples of activities that attract R&D benefits include; use of non-standard construction materials, setting up in-house  BIM processes, off-site and modular construction and environmentally friendly / sustainable projects, to name a few. You will be home based with the very occasional need to visit clients and colleagues. The work is as varied as their wide range of clients and will span building, transportation infrastructure, water & environmental, energy and industrial sectors.

About You: A degree qualified civil / structural engineer or equivalent, with a minimum of four year’s UK based experience. This could have been gained with a consulting practice, contractor or developer. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential. You will collaborate with a range of client representatives at various levels of seniority. The ability to convey technical information to people with non-technical backgrounds is essential.
