Your new role
Working closely with the Head of Civil Engineering and other key peers the Project Engineer will assist, coordinate and manage, where required, the delivery of major and complex infrastructure projects on both the Port and Logistics Park.

Supporting the Head of Civil Engineering and a wide range of engineering managers with differing expertise and skill sets. Coordinating and managing third party suppliers, consultants, and contractors in delivering engineering services to London Gateway. Liaising relevant internal departments e.g. planning, legal, estate and property development to input into the delivery of civil engineering projects for the Company. Responsibility coordinating and implementing assigned projects ensuring delivery to milestones and budgets.
Key Responsibilities include

  • Appointment, coordination and management of design consultants, contractors, and other suppliers in delivering infrastructure projects.
  • Monitoring and supervising civil, building works and/or services contracts.
  • Liaise and coordinate with internal departments.
  • Taking the lead in managing the delivery of infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure all works on site are carried out in a safe and environmentally acceptable manner.
  • Management of design works by consultants.
  • Contract administration of minor works and supporting Head of Civil Engineering in contract administration of major works.
  • Reporting to senior managers on contract (or elements of the contract) progress and budget and advise on actions needed to keep the project to the agreed programme and budget.
  • To prepare and review documentation for regulatory approvals, tendering and contract issue.
  • Advise and liaise with project stakeholders and consultants.

The above outlined responsibilities are not exhaustive, and you may be required to carry out other tasks that are appropriate to your role in addition to these.

What you'll need to succeed
Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree or higher degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management or Construction Management
  • Demonstrable experience of civil engineering.
  • Experience of Engineering projects within port/development/property company or consultancy.
  • Experience managing design consultants essential.
  • Tendering, procurement and budget management.

Beneficial experience

  • Contract administration.
  • Implementation of plans in accordance with agreed targets and business and clients' needs.
  • Logistics park projects.

Additional Skills and Experience

  • A sound working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills and confident in handling and interpreting numerical data and information and collating and relating facts. Good report writing skills, ability to prepare project reports. Confident communicator both face to face and in writing with all levels, comfortable presenting to stakeholders
  • Understanding the project and business goals and to help to meet them.
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of civil and building project lifecycle.
  • Ability to manage tendering and procurement process for various stages of projects.
  • Strong understanding of industry standard contracts and ability to deal with contractual items.
  • Strong persuasion and commercial negotiation skills.
  • Collaboration/teamwork needed to facilitate change initiatives.
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude/proactive, self-motivated.
  • Full UK driving licence
