Job Details

Become part of our society.
We are looking for a hydraulic modeller or Civil Engineer (Water) to join our Flooding and Water Management Team in Scotland.  The role can be based out of Edinburgh or Glasgow with flexible working. You will join a growing team of hydraulic modellers, hydrologists, geomorphologists, civil engineers and economic specialists.
What does the role involve?
Our Flooding and Water Management team work on a variety of flood protection projects across the UK, in both the public and private sectors.  Whilst we primarily consider ourselves to be flood risk managers the role can also involve hydrology; hydraulic modelling; GIS; client and regulator management; optioneering; economic assessments; schematic, outline and detailed design; project and budget responsibility; site visits and supervision; auditing and quality assurance; input to bidding; and other commercial activities. You will develop a well-rounded knowledge of all these activities in a multidisciplinary environment.
To be successful in this role you will:
  • hold a degree, or Masters, in Civil Engineering or related discipline (minimum 2:1).
  • be working towards chartered status from an appropriate institution (C.Eng or C.WEM).
  • have a minimum of three years industry experience (assistant engineer or engineer grade).
  • demonstrate knowledge and experience of standard hydraulic modelling packages.
  • demonstrate an understanding of economic appraisals (MCM, B£ST etc).
  • have experience in optioneering and schematic design.
  • display excellent interpersonal skills.
  • be an excellent written and verbal communicator.
  • Applicants with a background in hydraulic modelling (Innovyze ICM, Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS or SRH2D) and/or economic assessments will be preferred. An understanding of Natural Flood Management and Sustainable Drainage techniques is also desirable.
What’s in it for you?
Sweco are striving to address society’s challenges. As part of the Flooding and Water Management team you will be deploying sustainable techniques to make people and places safer and more resilient to flood risk and climate change. We promise a meaningful job where your work will drive environmental, economic and societal recovery.
You’ll be working for a top ten civil engineering firm (as recognised by New Civil Engineer) experiencing an inclusive, friendly and flexible working environment where colleagues are encouraged to grow and develop. Sweco have accredited training schemes with several professional bodies including CIWEM and ICE as part of our Training Academy.
If you want to make a meaningful contribution to society, if you are motivated to grow, and if you want to join a business with genuine opportunities for career progression, then we’d love to hear from you.
