Extend the influence of your expertise
At HSE, we work with one goal in mind – to help keep Britain’s workforce safe and healthy. We are the independent regulator for occupational health and safety in Great Britain, and our work touches virtually every sector of UK industry. We don’t just inspect workplaces and implement the law, we campaign for better H&S practice, craft and review guidance and regulations, provide specialist products and services, and produce crucial research and statistics.
Diverse perspectives and experiences are critical to our success and we welcome applications from all people from all backgrounds with the experience and skills needed to perform this role. We look forward to receiving your application.
The role
As an Explosives Specialist, you’ll apply your breadth of knowledge and expertise across diverse environments – from multinational munitions manufacturers to small fireworks stores. Working with other HSE specialists, you’ll carry out inspections, provide advice and make sure businesses operate within the law to keep their workers safe. You’ll also help shape the future of industry standards and guidelines, all while gaining invaluable experience to add to your record.
Your background
As this is a highly technical role, you’ll already be well-versed in the manufacture, storage and handling of explosive materials, as well as related plant and equipment. This will include an understanding of the principles of explosives safety. You’ll combine technical experience with strong communication skills and the ability to analyse data and plan effectively. You should also have a degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics, chartered membership of a relevant professional institution and a full UK driving licence.
Rewards
There’s a lot to look forward to here beyond the generous Civil Service pension and our commitment to flexible working. We put a high value on ongoing personal and professional development and offer access to learning opportunities tailored to your role. You can also expect annual leave of least 25 days.
Please submit your CV, with a suitability statement of up to 1,250 words, outlining relevant experience and explaining how you meet the requirements of the role.
