Engineering Technician

Your new company
Southend Borough Council is a unitary authority based in the heart of the town centre offering traditional seaside living that makes it a great place to live and work. This diverse and busy town has great public parks and leisure activities, competitive house pricing and excellent travel links. The Council are looking to appoint 1 new civil engineering technician to support the civil engineering service team!

Your new role
In this exciting role, you'll be assisting the engineers and senior engineers with civil engineering works within Civil Design, Asset Management, Traffic Management/Regulations, Road Safety, Maintenance, Traffic Signals, Street Lighting, Structures, Flood Risk and Coastal Protection within the civil engineering service. You'll be assisting in investigating and undertaking the design and implementation of flood risk, coastal protection, traffic, road safety, maintenance, and traffic control management schemes.

This role would suit a civil engineering technician looking for more experience across different aspects of civil engineering. You'll be responsible for supporting the initiation, planning and implementation of traffic, flood risk, coastal protection, and road safety projects to our agreed high standards and within budget.

What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this position, you'll need to have experience with AutoCAD within one of the above civil engineering specialisms, you'll need to be a quick learner with the ability to demonstrate this in interview as you'll be trained on the areas you are less familiar with by the team! Experience with Microdrainage in a previous role is highly desirable, although we are open to applications from people who haven't had this and are willing to learn! The ability to work within a team is imperative, so great communication and the ability to work both independently but also as part of a team is key.

Previous experience in Structural, Civil, Drainage, Coastal or Flooding environments would be great to see, especially if you can demonstrate how this experience could be transferable and beneficial to Southend's 2050 vision!

What you'll get in return
Offering a competitive salary of £26,511. When joining Southend Borough Council, you can enjoy a range of benefits including: flexible working, salary sacrifice scheme and excellent training and development opportunities. 23 days annual leave plus an excellent pension scheme. A full list of benefits can be viewed on the Southend Council-Hays website
