Bristol City Council is seeking experienced Highway Engineers to assist in shaping the City for a low carbon sustainable future. The Engineering Design Team is looking for experienced Highway Engineers to join our expanding team. 

Reporting to a Principal Engineer Team Manager, you will play a leading role in agreeing project briefs with our internal clients and taking a range of projects through from concept to completion, assisted by our team of Engineering Technicians and Assistant Engineers.

You will have a proven track record in the design and delivery of a wide range of highway projects and be able to demonstrate a wide-ranging knowledge of design standards and delivery processes. You will also be experienced in contract preparation and administration, as well as dealing with contractors.

You will join a multi-skilled team with a strong focus and track record of designing, procuring, and working with contractors to deliver a wide range of projects. As an engineer within the Engineering Design Team, you will have a strong focus on quality designs and will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects to develop Bristol’s public realm and transport network. Experience in the delivery of active travel and public transport infrastructure would therefore be an advantage.

We would particularly welcome applications from engineers who can demonstrate appropriate experience in design and delivery of urban highway projects, highway drainage design (including SUDS), the preparation of contract documents and/or those who have a track record of project managing NEC construction contracts. You will be proficient and able to guide others in the use of computer-based methods for design, document preparation, and project programming.
