Role Purpose

The purpose of the reservoir regulation team is to deliver reservoir safety outcomes across Wales. In this regulatory role you will create and manage a portfolio of work which focusses the team’s activity against strategic and tactical goals using risk-based method and judgement.

You’ll act as the team lead on maintaining an accurate register of reservoirs and securing the evidence to support our risk designation process. You’ll have the opportunity for working closely with reservoir engineers and other consutants to ensure NRW policy is delivered through a pragmatic approach.

You will help develop and maintain our role in recording and learning from reported reservoir incidents at a local and UK wide level, with opportunities for working with the Category 1 Responder community and with other regulators 

Your work will bring you into contact with a diverse range of customers and you will need to have skills to educate and influence to bring about improvements in reservoir safety beyond minimum compliance standards. Within the team, you will need flexibility to respond to forthcoming changes within the sector arising from the Balmforth review of reservoir safety.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. Degree or equivalent experience.
  1. Working knowledge of the Reservoirs Act 1975.
  1. Working knowledge of Flood Risk Management fundamentals.
  1. Experience of carrying out regulatory or enforcement activities. (Desirable)
  1. Working towards membership of ICE or CIWEM. (Desirable)
  1. Mentoring, relationship building and influencing skills.
  1. Understanding of strategic approaches to reservoir management.
  1. Experience of project management.
