Working Pattern: 37 hrs per week - Monday to Friday

The Job

We are looking for two Design Managers to join our Major Projects and Improvements Team.

Key areas of responsibility will include: -

  • To manage available resources and capacity within the team to ensure successful delivery
  • To design and manage the delivery of projects across the civil engineering discipline including highway geometric alignment, pavement, and drainage design which may be complex and significant, to achieve quality, programme and financial targets meeting customer and stakeholder requirements.
  • To manage the provision of specialist technical expertise's in delivery of highway design and civil engineering input to internal and external clients to support delivery of complex and large-scale projects
  • To lead the evaluation and authorisation of externally designed engineering schemes to ensure that design specification and safety standards are met
  • To lead and support Health and Safety ensuring that relevant legislation, policy and best practise are fully adhered to and to carry out the duties of Principal Designer to comply with the Construction Design and Management Regulations to support the safe delivery of projects on site.
  • To monitor staff performance, coach and act as a mentor developing technical expertise of team members to achieve both individual and team targets.
  • To hold team members to account to comply with set standards are met and maintained to a consistent and high-quality service.
  • Act as an ambassador for individual schemes and the company to maintain a positive company reputation and build relationships

 

The Person

Mainly you will be excited to be a part of our engineering projects, but there are just a few other things we’d like from you:-

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject and post qualification relevant experience, or equivalent knowledge gained through practical experience.
  • Ability to lead a team in a busy design environment to ensure team targets are met
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to gain agreement and acceptance of others including colleagues, senior managers and clients
  • Strong ICT skills and competence in specialist computer applications used to support highway design and civil engineering activities
  • Thorough working knowledge and demonstrable experience of design standards appropriate to highway design and civil engineering and contract
  • Thorough working knowledge of procurement practise used in design and construction including forms of tender, conditions of contract and forms of partnership
  • Proven experience of providing information, communicating and working collaboratively.
  • Proven experience of financial monitoring and control across a range of projects
  • Proficient at project delivery with proven experience of all stages of project implementation.
