Role Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that manages and maintains Flood Risk Management Plans that are used to reduce flooding to communities across the Upper Severn and Vyrnwy catchments

We are looking for suitably qualified individuals to support the production of maintenance and improvement programmes for flood risk management assets. These assets vary from coastal and tidal defences, river side flood walls and embankments to sluices, penstocks and pumping stations.

You will also support the development of nature based solutions to reducing flood risk and enhancing the environment and promoting the sustainable management of our natural resources in Wales.

You will primarily be responsible for undertaking assessments and carrying out pre-feasibility studies . Managing small to medium value projects and working with other specialists within NRW including our hydraulic modelling and engineering teams to determine cost effective and sustainable approaches to flood risk management.

You will be working in a team of similar experienced technical staff, delivering a risk based service across Mid Wales and will support NRW’s incident response to flooding

This role is suited to a technical person with a passion for working with the environment in order to make a difference to the lives of people in North Wales.

Ensure that NRW's banking and tax practices comply with external legislation and guidance as well as internal policies and procedures, ensuring that we have effective internal controls in place.  

Qualifications and Skills

  1. Educated to degree level in Civil Engineering or equivalent in a scientific subject.
  2. Good knowledge of ICT, including GIS systems and CAD (e.g. ARCGIS, AutoCAD). Good knowledge of AMX database would be an advantage.
  3. Good awareness of Health and Safety and relevant regulations e.g Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).
  4. Knowledge of civil engineering design, construction contract practices.
  5. Member of or demonstrate willingness to work towards membership of a relevant professional body such as ICE/CIWEM.
  6. Project Management experience and PRINCE 2 would be desirable.
  7. Must have full UK driving licence.
