Summary

The Purpose of this role is lead on all aspects of design on SCS, including design for permanent works and temporary works throughout the project lifecycle. The Role reports to the Technical Director.

Delivery of design is managed by Area teams, this role is responsible for ensuing quality, compliance with SCS management systems and the contract with HS2. The role is also responsible for BIM and CDM across the project.

Main Responsibilities

  • Leadership of SCS Design Services, including Permanent Works, Temporary works, CDM compliance and BIM across the life of the project, in compliance with all applicable regulations, standards, requirements of H&S, environmental policies and HS2.
  • Developing and Maintaining the Technical Processes required, to ensure SCS comply with legal requirements, SCS strategies and the Works information.
  • Providing governance and Assurance to the Project Management Team that the required processes are being complied with.
  • Ensuring Design House JV and Cat 3 Checker have the correct and adequate resources to deliver to SCS programme.
  • Management of the NEC Professional Services Contract between SCS and the Design House Joint Venture and other designers.
  • Management of the CAT3 Design Checker.
  • Deployment of BIM across the project to support Design and Construction and Handover project phases · Management (i.e. cost, programme, contract, scope, progress, change, compliance, governance etc.) of the scheme and detailed design teams including specialist designers and subcontractors responsible for their own design elements.
  • Acts as the Lead Designer for the integration of the interfaces between permanent design and temporary works design activities as delegated by Technical Director


Ideal Candidate

  • Educated to degree or higher and hold relevant professional qualification
  • Sustained Continuing Professional Development.
  • Experience in project-based design management across all project stages
  • Experience of large complex projects in the rail, highways, water or energy sectors.
  • Experience of managing the challenges associated with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of digital engineering in design and construction phases and of using the Digital Plan of Works.
  • Working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
