Summary

Responsible for managing Asset Protection measures to strengthen (or otherwise mitigate) 3rd party assets, located adjacent to the HS2 railway, which will be adversely affected by ground movements occurring during construction of the new railway. Those structures identified as potentially requiring mitigation include: Railway Tunnels, Bridging Structures, Retaining Walls, OLE Structures, Permanent Way, and Signalling Gantries, residential and commercial properties, listed structures and multiple other assets. Reporting to the Head of Asset Protection.

Flexible working: We welcome you to ask about the flexibility you need. This might be part-time, remote working, or compressed hours for example. Anyone who applies for a role can ask about flexibility at interview. In return, we will explore what is possible for the role.

Main Responsibilities

  • Management of the Routewide DH GMA teams (Bridge, Geotechnics, Gantries, Retaining Walls, Buildings and Heritage), ensuring sufficient resource available for each of the three delivery areas, and the GMA delivered are accurate and have all material assumptions removed (interface with Structural Survey).
  • Ownership of the ongoing revision/update of the Asset Protection Management Plan (APMP), and other relevant plans and processes.
  • Collection (from the area delivery teams) and interpretation of the relevant information and metrics that inform both the monthly F&R reporting cycles and those required for the fortnightly HS2 governance sessions.
  • Management of the specialist designer framework (10 specialist designers), with a particular focus on competence management (audit etc).
  • Ensuring ad-hoc specialist support is afforded to the Area delivery teams for urgent reactionary items such as trigger breaches leading to MAT meetings.
  • Coordination with the Structural Survey package mangers, particularly critical IFA, which are the key enabler to the Asset Protection workstream.

Being a member of the Engineering Management team provides opportunity to contribute into other aspects of this discipline and provide direction advice and support to the design and construction teams as appropriate. The Asset Protection Manager maintains a position that is independent to the delivery team, in order that they can provide independent judgment and intervene if necessary to stop works in the case of significant change to construction methodology, sequencing, temporary works or impact on permanent works or structural movements.

Ideal Candidate

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or other construction related subject
  • Appropriate experience in management on the provision of technical reports on major Civil Engineering project or a similar scope/nature, ideally relating to Ground Movement and/or impacts of construction on third parties.
  • Relevant CSCS Card.
