Environmental Permitting and Regulation Consultant

Overview / Responsibilities

  • Environmental Regulation Consultants - Senior/Principal though applicants across all grades will be considered
  • This role can be based in any of our UK Offices (Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Leamington Spa, Birmingham, Glasgow, Bristol, London, Reading or Shrewsbury) and we can also offer flexible/hybrid working options.

My Clients UK Regulation and Compliance team typically:

  • We work individually and within multi-disciplinary teams in planning, environmental impact assessment, ecology, air and water quality, hydrogeology, contaminated land, waste management, carbon management, sustainability, circular economy and environmental policy.
  • Develop Environmental Management Systems and tools
  • Lead and author Environmental Permit applications, (BAT) assessments and environmental risk assessments
  • Undertakes compliance audits and assessments
  • Including major infrastructure, hydrogen and carbon capture and storage projects as well as the construction, operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities

Role involves:

  • Develop creative solutions to compliance issues
  • Leading and authoring Environmental Permit applications and coordinating inputs
  • Defining legal and regulatory obligations
  • Supporting business development
  • Scoping and preparing project proposals and deliverables
  • Depending on grade, you will have the opportunity to excel in the following areas:
  • Delivery of technically excellent projects
  • Development and leading client relationships
  • Preparing proposals and negotiating commissions with clients
  • Managing successful projects

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A relevant first degree (or equivalent) in science and /or engineering and preferably a relevant second degree (or equivalent)
  • Experience working in environmental consultancy, client side or with the Environmental Regulator
  • Excellent proposal and report writing skills
  • Demonstrable experience coordinating and authoring Environmental Permit applications, Best Available Techniques Assessments and ideally environmental risk assessments
  • Delivering regulatory and compliance services more broadly. This may include determining compliance requirements for projects, undertaking environmental audits or developing Environmental Management Systems. You may have experience providing environmental services on engineering projects
