Job Details

A chartered civil or structural engineer with forensic engineering experience is required by a leading firm of forensic engineers. The opportunity will enable you to apply your engineering expertise to civil and structural engineering projects internationally, with an emphasis on buildings and civil structures. You will establish the cause of failures to high value assets typically related to construction defects, accidents, earthquakes, storm damage, explosion, sub-standard materials and design floors. This is a role for a senior industry insider with strong technical focus and communication skills. You will be working closely with insurance and loss adjusting professionals and legal representatives of the insured and insurance providers. You will occasionally be asked to recommend remedial measures and from time to time call in the assistance of specialist experts.

The role:  The position will involve the physical survey of projects in the UK and internationally. Occasional overseas travel is required, typically lasting no more than one or two days and usually within Europe. Preparing reports that explain the cause of a failure and who / what is to blame. Your reports will need to be understood by lay people and should be robust enough to withstand legal scrutiny and peer review. A good percentage of this work can be carried out at home if preferred. The position offers exceptional working flexibility.

About you:  A background in structural engineering design and forensic investigation or structural inspection and assessment experience. A principal/ associate level engineer or above and chartered member of the IStructE or ICE. A background in building/ civil structures. A lateral thinker with technical depth that can be applied to a range of civil and structural challenges. Strong communication skills and able to author clear, concise and robust technical reports.

The Opportunity: This would provide a move away from traditional consulting to a sector that performs well throughout economic cycles. Their fee margins are high and not subjected to the same tender driven forces experienced by most consulting engineering businesses. The position will enable you to work towards becoming a sought after expert witness and the company's continued growth will provide good scope for progression.
