An opportunity for a structural engineer to gain valuable rail experience with a leading consultancy. The position would suit an engineer looking for more independence and variety. With the focus on the survey and improvement of buildings and associated rail structures, you will be working in a sector that’s in constant demand providing a high level of employment security.
Your Role: You will be a key member within a team of engineers and building surveyors. Your main focus will be to review structural examination reports prepared by your surveying colleagues. Using your engineering knowledge you will raise recommendations for action that needs to be taken, and identify work that should be prioritised. Typically, this will be in relation to stations, platforms, depots, bridges and gantries. The rail network has numerous civil and structural assets, there will be a good deal of variety. The position will be predominantly home based, occasionally you will carry out site visits to check the accuracy of a survey, or to provide technical insight within your own sphere of engineering knowledge.
The Company: The practice employs 150 staff and is an independently owned consultancy. Their multidiscipline engineering capability has evolved over several decades. A balanced client base provides work in transportation, utilities and buildings in the private and public sectors. They have a considerable civil and structural capability which is set to steadily grow.
Training & Development: Emphasis is placed on training and development. Bi-annual reviews are used to tailor your training requirements, there is an ongoing calendar of CPD activities, support is provided to achieve Incorporation or chartership with the ICE or IStructE and there is a highly successful management training programme.
Your Profile: Five or more years structural engineering experience focused on building, rail or civil structures. Educated to HNC/HND or degree level. Some experience of structural survey / assessment. A good written and verbal communicator. Holder of a valid UK driving licence.
