Highways & Maintenance

Haringey Council is embarking on a major transformation of the borough and to achieve this we are investing millions in our highway infrastructure which is the most visible, well-used and valuable physical asset managed by the Council. Our roads are crucial for the prosperity of the borough as they enable the safe and free movement of people and goods whether they are walking, cycling, driving, or using bus services.

Haringey is embarking on major highway asset management improvements, and we have created some exciting new permanent positions. These posts will help us to continue making major improvements on the highways network through essential works to our roads, highway structures, street lighting and drainage systems, so that they all work effectively.

About the role

The Principal Highway Engineer will take a lead role in the development of a strategic approach to the management of the Council’s highway assets, and in the review and design, consultation, and delivery of assigned work. This includes major planned and responsive maintenance on footways, drainage and carriageways, schemes funded through new developments including those funded through legal agreements, other externally funded highway works, regeneration schemes and streetscape works.

About you

You will be an experienced senior member of the highways and maintenance service and will play a lead role in providing support, advice and guidance across the service, including to senior management as well as supporting more junior members of staff. You will also have a detailed knowledge and understanding of highways, transport and public safety legislation, statutory duties and practice and Detailed technical knowledge of highway engineering, including analytical methods, technical standards and methodologies, design principles and techniques.
